This article speaks for a generation. Skim it at least.

It begins by reviewing the recent House hearing that included, among others, Tony Bobulinski. It touches on the exchange between AOC and Bobulinski...

...but, then, considers broader realities. He speaks for me... and OD, I presume... and tens of millions who were guided by the politics of JFK, and Jimmy Carter, Dems who occupied the White House as recently as Bill Clinton.

Turley, I, and tens of millions have no home in American politics. Woe is we.

*****

Note: Turley makes it clear. He is STILL a Democrat.

Donna and po both have denounced him as a Republican... po calls him a MAGAhat. But, he ain't. By his own word, he continues to remember what Dems once were. He wants that back.

Turley says,

The Democrats have allowed their very identity to drip through their open fingers. They have become a party that calls for censorship, ballot cleansing, and court packing. Now they are dismissing allegations of raw influence peddling after opposing every effort to investigate it.

As a lifelong Democrat from a politically active Chicago family, I can no longer recognize the party from my youth. We once stood for something other than the next election or hating others.

Gang,

Truth!

Donald Trump may very well win in 024. Why? The backbone of the Dem Party, blue collar people and Roman Catholics, etc., have no home.

Donald Trump stands for their values. Joe Biden. Kamala Harris. Chuck Schumer. Raheem Jeffries? AOC and the Squad... don't.

You are correct. We actually saw JFK when he spoke at the opening of the Frying Pan Arkansas Project opening (a much smaller version of the TVA). It was quite a thing. Dem town, proud to see our President. He spoke about working together. Everyone was needed to be America.

I've talked about my dad and his political views. He was 1st gen American. Both parents were born in the old country. He worked his way to go to college and become a teacher. Everyone mattered to him. That American ethos of what MLK Jr would talk about later. He was proud to help kids get a good start in life.

Then the teachers' started to change. It wasn't just about the kids and I want to be treated well. It was about "me first." An autocratic system where "I'm the adult in the room, do as I say." I don't want to do what's good for the kids, they have to be indoctrinated. That's when dad quit the teachers' union. He was still a blue-collar dem until the day he died. But it was for the good of all. That's what he thought about. Good jobs for those that want them was big. Treat everyone with respect. Accountability.

    Things have changed so much.

    OD,

Good of you to mention MLK. I was thinking only of Presidents.

His notion of social justice is not today's... and, people who share his vision of justice also have no home among Dems today.

Turley's right to describe hate as a core value of the Dems today. It's also Trump's, for sure. But the party of po, and her metaphorical Rachel have no cause for sanctimony as far as hate goes.

Turley is a far right wingnut according to his beliefs. He can call himself a pink flamingo - but that doesn't make it true.

Turley has lost his way. I attribute it to his spending too much time inside the FOX News studios.

"Ballot cleansing" sounds more like something the Republicans do when they are quick to jump the gun and purge legitimate voters from the voter rolls.

"Court packing" hasn't happened since the 1900's and both parties have considered it.

As for censorship, it's the Republicans who are banning books and firing librarians and teachers who don't toe the line.

Serial lawsuit filer and censorship aficionado, Donald Trump, is the one who attempts to stifle media's critiques and even even jocular and benign comments about him. Last week Trump filed a defamation suit against ABC News and its host George Stephanopoulos for calling him a rapist---please, he prefers to be known as an adjudicated sexual assaulter!

Trump sued comedian Bill Maher in 2013. In 2020, Trump sued CNN for an opinion piece about the Mueller investigation. In March 2020, the Trump campaign sued both The Washington Post and The New York Times for publishing 2019 opinion columns about alleged Russian election interference. In 2021, he sued the The New York Times for its 2018 investigation of his finances. In 2023, Trump sued journalist Bob Woodward for publishing interviews he said violated his copyright, and his Truth Social platform filed a suit against The Washington Post over coverage of the company’s finances.

Famously in the mid-1980s, Trump sued the Chicago Tribune and its architecture critic for criticizing his plan to build the world’s tallest building in Manhattan. The suit was naturally dismissed, as have been his other nuisance lawsuits.

"Court packing" hasn't happened since the 1900's and both parties have considered it.

    C'mon, man!

Joe and the string-pullers were talking about it at the beginning until Manchin and Sinema said uh uh. Didn’t that come up in your Holy Trinity?

As for censorship, it's the Republicans who are banning books and firing librarians and teachers who don't toe the line.

    Nuh uh. Not happnin.

As for all of Trump's sins? How does that justify the Dems' Stalinism!!!!!? It's a fine argument to fight the Swamp, though.

Everything Turley said has basis in truth and, Curt, don't you prefer the party of Kennedy and Carter and Clinton, and MLK, to the cluster that is the Dems in 024? I was hopeful that you would.

Biden has never advocated court packing. You are misinformed.

Btw, why do insist that Trump and his foibles should not be mentioned or criticized? He is the de facto head of the GOP.

Trump was also famously behind the critical error the USFL made when it sued the NFL and won... $3. They promptly went ouf of business and everyone blames the same guy - Trump and his lawsuit.

    Indy,
A classic example of a Pyrrhic victory.

Btw, why do insist that Trump and his foibles should not be mentioned or criticized? He is the de facto head of the GOP.

    I don't.

But, I have noticed that the best you can say about that "dithering and diminished" Doddering Old Fool is to claim that Trump is bad. He is. Dems are worse.

It's like saying that Hitler a hero because Stalin was reeeeeeeeally bad.

    Nuh uh.

BTW, here's Turley himself. He speaks for so many of us geezers.
